After graduating from the University of Oxford, Professor Davis spent two years as a postdoctoral fellow at the University of Toronto exploring protein chemistry and biocatalysis. He returned to the UK in 1998 to take up a lectureship at the University of Durham and subsequently moved to the Dyson Perrins Laboratory, University of Oxford in 2001. He was also awarded a Fellowship at Pembroke College, Oxford and became a full professor in 2005.
His Group's research centres on Chemical Biology with an emphasis on carbohydrates and proteins. He is the current Editor-in-Chief of Current Opinion in Chemical Biology, Secretary of the European Carbohydrate Organisation and President of the Royal Society of Chemistry (RSC) Chemical Biology Division.
